Ammerlaan Sosef is known as perhaps the most characteristic potted plant grower in the Westland region. Their approach stands out with a bold, unique, and exuberant style. As the largest Celosia grower in the world, Ammerlaan Sosef produces beautiful Celosia plants, which are available in spring and summer. But co-owner Gertjan Sosef does not sit still in the other seasons! Looking for an addition for autumn, he chose something special to fill the greenhouses: Sollinea.

Sollinea: The Spoon-Shaped Chrysanthemum
Sollinea is a unique chrysanthemum variety with spoon-shaped flowers. The petals are closed at the base and at the tips, resembling countless small spoons.
“The spoon-shaped flower itself isn’t what makes Sollinea unique,” says Gertjan. “This flower shape has existed for a while. But Royal Van Zanten has created a striking color mix that gives the chrysanthemum a warm autumn feel. It fits a calm, modern interior as well as a vintage, classic setting. The sleeve with golden sun rays completes the concept and stands out on the shelf—a distinctive product for retailers.”
About Gertjan
Gertjan has been active in the greenhouses of Ammerlaan Sosef for 25 years. He knows exactly what he wants: “If I don’t like a plant, I won’t grow it. I only cultivate plants that I truly believe in. It needs to capture me in some way—preferably something unique and daring as well. A few years ago, I saw Sollinea for the first time at a trade show, and I fell in love with it straight away! The style appealed to me—it was bold and different from the other plants on the shelf.”
In recent months, Ammerlaan Sosef has been cultivating Sollinea. “We’re not entirely sure yet what our customers’ reactions will be, but the initial feedback is positive. We’re looking forward to hopefully growing an autumn Sollinea again next year.”
