The double, pollen-free lily is here to stay within the lily sector. This type of lily is in high demand worldwide and the industry predicts that demand will steadily grow. Van Zanten Flowerbulbs anticipated this development, and over the past years we have already been pre-selecting for this, and we will soon launch the first commercial bulbs. The Lucky lily series – double orientals – is about to take the market by storm!
Van Zanten Flowerbulbs – active in the breeding, growing and trading of lily bulbs for over 160 years – started breeding double oriental lilies 18 years ago.
During this time, six varieties have been registered by name, from which commercial bulbs will soon be launched onto the market, including the Lucky Angel, Lucky Queen and Lucky One.
Collaborating on the Lucky series
The exclusive production licence have been sold to a grower group of six growers, namely:
– De Geus-Troost from St. Maarten;
– Th. A. Pennings & Zn from Breezand/Julianadorp;
– Nic van Klink B.V. from ‘t Zand;
– Exclusive Lily from ‘t Zand;
– Gebroeders Hulsebosch B.V. from Schagerbrug, and
– Fa. J. de Kroon & Zn together with M.A. van den Berg & Zn from Schagerbrug.
The sale of the cultivation rights initiates a flourishing collaboration between Van Zanten Flowerbulbs and the grower group. The collaboration allows all parties to focus on what they are good at. Van Zanten can focus entirely on breeding and selecting the new Lucky varieties, while the growers take care of bulb production. In this way, the market is assured of sufficient availability of top-quality Lucky lily bulbs.
Van Zanten Flowerbulbs and the growers will work together to promote the double, pollen-free lilies.
To ensure the year-round supply of Lucky varieties, bulb production will also take place in the southern hemisphere. This will be handled by Van Zanten Flowerbulbs’ own nursery in Raikaia, New Zealand.
